V6 or V8?
I am looking at getting an 05 mustang but I don't know if I want a GT or a v6.
I would love a GT because of the v8 and just because its a GT. But I'm student in college and a v6 is cheaper and the insurance is a little cheaper monthly. Does the v6 get way better gas mileage than a v8? What are the major differences between the engine and the fog lights on the v6 and the GT? I am just deciding what I should get.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

well the major difference is the power that the v8 has over the v6...the 8 is not really necissary for the daily driver, but as you said it is pretty much "cool to have"
the fog lights are, in my opinion, very useful, but others might say that they are pointless and just for looks. you can get them on the v6 if you go with the pony package (i did)
the v6 does get a bit better mileage than the gt...i think its like 2mpg better...so nothing too much to really make a difference
now it is a given that there are gunna be a lot of people that say "8 all the way" but if you dont want a lot of speed, that really isnt what you are looking for
hope this helps

supply and demand. the dealerships know that the 05's are still high in demand b/c ford didnt make nearly enough of them to accomidate for the people that wanted to buy them. personally, i would go with an 06GT rather than an 05. a guy i know just bought an 06 fully loaded for around 24-25. they actually knocked money off sticker whereas on the 05's they were trying to put an average of 5K-8K markup...atleast that's how it was in my area.
personally i dont agree with the buying a v6 and putting a blower and stuff on it b/c in the long run, you are gonna end up spending a lot more money in making your car as fast as a GT as well as building up the engine to safely accomidate the blower. And then it will still look like a v6 and you will end up wanting to put a body kit and tires and rims and the works on it...
before you know it, you will have $30 - $35K into a v6 and you will never get close to your money back should you ever decide to sell it.
spend the 25K on the GT and slowly add on bolt-ons till you get it where you want it.
just my .02

I drove them both and know there is a big difference in the driving experience. The GT's power spoils you so you don't want to go back to anything less. But when I was in your situation it sucked to be tied down with big expenses.
Get a V6 and party hardy through school, and don't forget to graduate. More money will come your way later so you can spoil yourself with blowers and bigger engines when the time comes.

The GT is another animal, you never mistake it however for your age group the insurance would be murder. I would recommend the Pony right now and after school maybe a trade is in order to celebrate the graduation!
Good luck and Happy New Year!
Ryder, the big advantage of the V6 is the insurance rate, which depending on your age can be substantial. I had my V6 outfitted with the GT grill, wheels and tires at the dealership as part of the purchase deal, but you can also get the entire GT cosmetic package on eBay for around $550, including both mufflers. The other disadvantage of the V6, besides the HP loss is they do not have a rear sway bar, but again, the GT units including the shocks, springs, front and rear sway bar, can be had on eBay for $325. The addition of a tuner like the SCT XCalibrator2 will greatly improve performance over stock, so you can have a fairly good performing car and still not be paying premium insurance rates for around $1000 over what you buy it for. The parts are available from Casco Tech on eBay.
On the other hand, depending on what you want to do with the car (like drag racing, etc.), and if the extra $10000 and higher insurance costs aren't an issue, the GT is a lot of fun. It has the advantage of better suspension, brakes, an aluminum block and better heads. You can go just as fast with the V6 as the V8, but it will cost you much more and if the guy with the bigger displacement engine (in this case the V8) is willing to spend as much as you, or even close to what you spend, he is most likely going to be faster. Old drag racer saying, the only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars...
So, IMHO, if you want the car for a daily driver and to do road trips, etc. with the V6 is the way to go, but if you want a car to race that will require less time, effort and money to go fast, get the GT.

ok
1.) a 6er will never sound like a V-8
2.) check insurance cause sometimes they are about the same, and i was told that the 6ers are sometimes cheaper because, there are more of them, so there are more stolen then GTs or thats what my insurance company said.
3.) get the 6 for now, your a student, so keep the 6 until you graduate, get a good job, then in a few years get a GT 500
