In dash navigation!?
I have the Kenwood Exeleron DDX 8017 and I love it. Takes a little to get used to all the controls and all but I havent had any problems with it. It was a nice clean install and the head unit actually looks like it belongs with the car.
It's funny that I found this thread because just today I installed the Kenwood KNA DV4100 navigation system. I installed it under the passenger seat. It took me the whole day to run wires under the carpet and up to the radio unit and install the whole thing. I didnt plug in the "speed sensor" I dont even know what that is for so I just cut it out. And the green wire that goes to the parking brake I just grounded it to the car chassis so that way the car thinks that the parking brake is always on letting me have full access to the menus. Its a decent navigation system. I will learn to like it I guess. I am kinda mad that I cant hear the voices. I must have something muted.
Also today I installed XM satellite. The wire that goes from the XM box to the radio unit is only like 2 or 3 feet long making it hard to hide the box. I mounted mine on the wall of the middle console next to the drivers seat.
Anyone else install a Kenwood DV4100 Nav system?

I have the 4100 system. The reason you can't hear the "voices" is because you didn't install the speed sensor wiring. Used to be called the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) but the S197s no longer have "VSS". It is now called OSS. Without it, you won't have true navigation functionality. You will just have a high priced map. Run your speed sensor wire in to the engine compartment and connect it to the blue wire with the green tracer on the top plug of the PCM. You will have vehicle speed, ETA, guidance, etc. on the navigation system.
Here is a picture I took quite a while back showing the wire. It has since been edited to also show where to hook up a wideband sensor, so ignore that part.

Hawgman thanks for the reply.. Hope you get my email cuz I could really use your help... And to think I almost cut off that speed sensor wire completely.... I did however cut off the pink reverse wire... I didnt see the need for that... I didnt even hook that wire up with the radio either... I also didnt connect the illumination wire ( i prefer the bright setting at all times even at night ) and i didnt connect the brown mute wire....
Got your mail and replied. I didn't hook up the reverse wire either. Couldn't figure out the purpose of it. I have a reverse cam hooked up and connected to the AV inputs. Have the inputs set to auto sense, and power the camera off of the positive lead to the backup lights. So when I put the car in reverse the camera powers up, sends a signal to the head unit and it automatically switches to video from the inputs. When I take the car out of reverse it switches back to what it was before ( usually the navigation screen ). I did hook the illumination wiring up. Without it, at night it was like driving with a flashlight shining in your face. I don't remember hooking up the mute wire either to be honest about it. The mute button on the head unit works though.
And just as a correction in my email, I said head unit when I referred to the speed sensor wire. Obviously that was incorrect. I meant the nav unit.

Hawgman got everything right except for the prices.
Eclipse actually has 2 different units out. The first is a DVD based nav system (double din) and the second is a hard drive based system. The hard drive system Has all of the nav info stored internally, no discs, and you can even load your own media into the memory for later play back. Both systems can be set up to be viewed while driving.
I am the sales manager for a car audio shop in the New Orleans area and I carry all three double din NAV brands in stock, and believe me, they will look great in your stang flushed into the dash. Here's the breakdown:
DDX-7017 Kenwood double din $1299
DDX-8017 Kenwood double Din $1699
KNA-DV4100 Kenwood Nav system (discontinued, new unit expected in march) $1099
AVIC-N2 Pioneer double din w/NAV $1299
AVN-5435 Eclipse DVD based NAV $1899
AVN-5495 Eclipse hard drive based NAV $2499

I bought the Kenwood DDX 8017, the Kenwood KNA-DV4100 navigation system, and the XM tuner for $1700 total... I also installed everything myself saving me another couple hundred
