Buying a '05 Mustang GT
Hi Everyone,
I am about to buy a 2005 Mustang GT Premium off an individual - the car has about 7k miles on it and is fairly well maintained. Tomorrow, I take it in for the full buyer’s checkup at a ford dealership close by.
I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you all could help me with:
What all does a new Mustang GT come with that I should make sure I get from the owner? Things I have already listed out are:
- Service Record
- User Manual
- Warranty Card
- Duplicate Keys
- Extra Remote??
Is there anything else I should watch out for during the purchase process? I have gone through most internet used car sites (like
Edmunds.com and caranddriver.com etc) looking for tips… so I am taking all the usual precautions….
Thanks!

Well you should get the owner's manual with it, at least 2 keys and 2 keyless entry fobs. If it is a GT Premium there are a few other things that may or may not come with it. If it has the Shaker 1000 you should find a subwoofer speaker in the trunk. If you have the anti-theft lugs on your wheels then the original lugs should also come with it plus a socket to take off the anti-theft lugs. Floor mats should come with as well. If there have been any aftermarket parts added to it then that may make it slightly different than a stock GT premium. My advice is when you drive it and take it to a service rep just be sure to check out everything: horn, trunk opens, hood opens, look at the undercarriage for any signs of damage, turn signals and lights work, your keyless entry remotes work, both seats move in all directions they are suppose to go, rear seats fold down, etc. There are many things you should check out when buying a used car, but I can't think of a whole lot that is specific to the Mustang GT that would need to be checked out. Since it is only at 7000 miles you should still be covered under the factory warranty for any mechanical breakdowns.
Great thanks for the detailed reply Jason!! :-)
I managed to find the Owners Manual for the mustang - I am going through it page-by-page and make notes on what I should check (for example run through some functions of the Shaker system - insert MP3 CDs, play them, eject them etc)
For others thinking of buying a used mustang, I'll be posting back soon with all the steps I went through when buying this car .. once I am done making the whole list!!
(can't wait to own my own V8 GT ... whoo hoooo)
