Default Custom Tuning and Warranty

Does anyone know if custom tuning the ecu voids warranty? Or what exactly voids warranty?

If the Search function worked worth a $hit on this forum, more people would use it. If I feel like burning a lot of time and getting nowhere, I come to the forum and try using the search function to find something.

It depends on the dealer. The dealer I work with does not void for the tune simply because for ever aftermarket thing you do to these cars you have to tune for it. I don't think you should have an issue with your dealer voiding your warrenty.

I don't get it. Even if the search function doesn't work, doesn't anyone read the manual to their predator or SCT? Come on, both units hold multiple custom tunes, multiple supplied tunes with your kit, and factory default settings. Simply switch to the factory default setting whenver you have to go to the dealer and it won't even be an issue. It takes about 2 whole minuets and 0 computer/car knowledge.

very true but here in .03 second im gonna welcome you to the 21st century. Every time you touch the ECU on a new car it leaves a shadow code, showing what you did to it and what you used. Therefore even though you restored factory settings, it still shows at one time you altered the ECU. So if the dealer deems that doing the altercation caused the failure, thats when your warrenty goes bye-bye.

I'm no expert, but I would think there has got to be a way to do a 'restore' of the original code, thus restoring it to a point before the changes were made. Heck, we do back-ups and restores all the time in the computer industry.

Thanks Buck Rodgers. I really didn't know it left a shadow and that's good info. I personally lost my warranty a long time ago in a mod galaxy far far away..... But great info for the guys with intake and tunes. Sounds sarcastic, but I'm j/k - I really didn't know that - thanks for the info.

There is no taking out the tune for me since the 4:10's were installed. The biggest thing you can do for the dealership so they won't mess with you is complete the survey when Ford calls about your service and give them all excellents on there job performance.
