I thought I read that it records the last 30 minutes of your driving.
If I was in an accident and the airbags never opened, I would like to prove that with the black box.
I've been in few accidents in other cars and they never opened upon impact. The last car that we were hit in as I was turning (girl ran a red light) which pushed us into another car, the airbags never opened.

I'm not sure that I would enjoy a airbag going off in my face.

Welcome to the world of OBD IV. it is going to get real hairy when it goes into OBD V at that point it would be possible for a sat in the sky to record in real time speed events above the norm and either disable the vehicle or have an enforcement agency send you a nice ticket with all the details, its a benefit of GPS and governments right to know.

It says it ONLY records if the airbag deploys.
well manual states it records speed also.

anyway if i crash at 150, there is no need for me to worry about post-crash data recovery I guess but I just hate to use some bloody piece of technology that is spying on me!!! like internet explorer

only "luck" is that cops here in CZ are probably too stupid to even ever heard of something so "hi-tech" as black box in a car.

New member, dug this post up. I asked the dealership if it had the black box, they were clueless. In Cali they must tell you, in 2011 all states must tell you if it has one. I'm surprise people in here aren't more worried about this.

THEY DO NOT NEED A WARRANT TO DOWNLOAD YOUR DATA, ALL THEY NEED IS LAPTOP!

Anyway, someone will make a fortune by getting rid of this black box software. If they can hack into the CIA then surely someone can fix this problem.

Here is the updated law

Hey don't worry about it. It's not like it video tapes you smoking weed in your car or something. By the way the video of the old lady was staged.

I agree 100% with you man! I would pay for a whole new ECU if necessary to remove that **** box (somebody please make one). Secondly this is just another insurance ploy at saving money.
