I agree 100% with you man! I would pay for a whole new ECU if necessary to remove that **** box (somebody please make one). Secondly this is just another insurance ploy at saving money.
If you ever hit my car, I pray you don't have it. That way, my recorder will say I was driving the legal speed limit and my car was in perfect control, and yours.. "officer I took the **** box out."

Do I seriously really have to explain it? How much money and time do insurance companies spend on investigating collisions, and how many times do the insurance companies get it right? Less money needed to acquire all the facts of the collision rather than speculating and wasting adjusters time, thus the insurance companies save time and money. Insurance companies always have ploys to save money and this obviously looks to be one.

Insurance ploy? How so?

I just don't want Big Brother pushing it's way into my life, if you enjoy being their lemming by all means enjoy the black box, while your at it have them put a micro-chip in your ***, or tag your ear, "just in case" you never know what may happen and you may want to be covered. Secondly it isn't even illegal to remove it, considering it is not even a law to have them nor was I notified of this, so even if I ran into you at 150mph, I could tell the cop to kiss my *** when he askes for the recorder, and if he really wanted to get nasty I could tie it up with the ACLU long enough to make your car a classic, so in other words companies are wasting money installing these units an actual law is implemented, and by the look of things the ACLU won't allow that to happen any time soon. So I recommend you mount a video camera in your car, just in case I run into you!

Just think; if everybody stopped street racing how much lower would our insurance premiums be? A bunch lower.

In my area it wouldn't lower the rates of insurance. The insurance companies around hear will come up with another reason rates should be high.

The city was told some years ago that the rates are high in Philly because of the amount of uninsured motorist. The city issued a program to get rid of a lot uninsured vehicles. They seized a couple of 1000 cars. When people question why haven't we seen a decrease in rates, they just say, " that isn't the only information we base our rated on."

So it doesn't mater what you do to lower your rates, because, it will not be the only information they base their rates on.

as a retired LEO I can tell you you are wrong. If you"re in an accident and the vehicle is impounded due to the severity, police will have a warrant the next day and the ACLU won't be able to do squat about it... This isn't something new, they have been doing it for 6 or 8 years.

I don't like having the black box. If I could disable it without screwing anything else up I would. Why? Because the government does not have the god given right to crawl up my ****, and thats what they are doing with the black box...

Your absolutely 100% right! The only one who will make and save money on this is the insurance companies. Stupid California just passed a law where insurance companies will charge higher rates to people in Suburban areas to compensate for the crappy driving and accidents with the bigger city drivers, so now I have to pay more to compensate for the city drivers who will now pay less; man California is Awesome!

Could it be too that Ford wants data to improve the next generation of mustangs? I mean, they've got to expect that people will speed in them and race in them. [sm=nerd.gif]
