Convertable or Hardtop?

This is the second 'vert I've owned in my life and still love it. The mustang 'vert is very quiet with top up and the wind and noise is cut somewhat with the top down compared to others i've driven.
The vert is definitely a cruiser. Great on nice days and warm enough in winter.

It's obvious which direction I went...
Bottom line is, if you wanna race at all, get the coupe. You don't want to have to chop up your vert to put in a roll cage. But, if you're not racing and you'll be able to use it at least a third of the time, get the vert. I love mine. Anytime the weather is over 40, I have the top down.
I guess you're either born a vert guy or a coupe guy, you just may not know it yet if you haven't had a vert
Fair warning, they're strongly addictive! (I haven't had a hard top in 15 years!)

Here are some self evaluation questions to help you out.
- Do you check yourself out every time you walk across a mirror or glass?
- Do you ignore things like displacement, horsepower, torque, understeer, heel-and-toe, apex, limit of adhesion etc?
- Do you prefer the mall over the strip?
- Do you live in a climate with hot summers, cool winters and old people?
- Do you enjoy the sun, the wind and bird poo in your hair?
- Do you have fantasies about jumping into the back of your car like Chris Tucker in Rush Hour?
if you've answered yes to more than half of those then you need a convertible, my friend

+1 on all of those, Plus I always seem to find that I like the verts better with their tops down. Here in NJ you really can't do that, so for the small amount of time I would have the top down every year it isn;t worth the extra cost

I'll play the opposite view. I prefer the coupe and here's why:
Usually have better lines (This is completely subjective)
Less wind noise
Better rollover protection
A stronger structure and better torsional rigidity without having to resort to a heavier frame
More security, someone can't just cut the top to get what they want
Not too mention the cost savings you can use for mods...or at least that's my plan

If it gets cold you can always put the top up, but when it's nice out in a coupe, not like you can take the top down. And driving a vert is....well, NICE!

I'll occasionally turn the air conditioner on with the top down, just to make my arms and chest area a little bit cooler. I'm not as cool as with the top up, but the energy usage is the same when the AC is on whether it's doing an excellent job of cooling with the top up or just a marginal job with the top down.
