Convertable or Hardtop?
I love my GT convertible. Of course it's only on 850 miles so hasn't had much time for anything to break. I like to cruise and occasionally give it some gas for a kick.
People I know into performance and racing would never buy it because the coupe has far better body stiffness, less weight, and won't break your neck if you roll it. The government rollover safety requirement do not apply to convertibles. The increased weight and less stiffness comes from not having the roof as a structural element.
Noise doesn't seem to be an issue. They did a real nice design job on it. If you like attention, people really notice the convertible cruising top down. On the few warm days so far, I already had a guy on a Harley strike up a conversation at a light saying how nice and looked and asking if I liked it.

This is my first vert after owning several vette's and trans ams with T Tops. I really love having the vert even though I'm from Northern NJ. I figure from the end of March until the middle of Nov is plenty of time to enjoy top down driving. In the summer, the only time I'll put the top up is if the humidity climbs really high. I enjoy hot weather, so summertime without AC doesn't bother me.
My wife is a convertible person and is on her 3rd Mustang convertible. But, she had the top down just once in all of 2005. Now we have both a coupe (mine) and convertible (hers) 2005 V6 Mustangs. Here is North Carolina, the weather is generally either too hot, or too cold, or rainy, or the pine tree pollen season is too intense. Within a calendar year there aren't as many great days as you mighty first think when it coomes to taking advantage of a convertible. Ford's new 2005 and 2006 convertibles are a lot better than the older models she owned in terms of a quiet ride and body stiffness. However, I prefer the stiffer body structure of my coupe.
I live in Florida, where you can have the top down 90% of the year. It all depends on preference, but...I have noticed that chicks dig the vert BIG TIME! It draws attention. I love the coupes as well, but for me, I wanted something to relax in, enjoy the drive and life. This care does exactly that. I find myself taking the longer, more scenic route home to allow my stresses of the daily grind to blow right out the back. As far as rolling the car over is concerned...If that is the way I am gonna go, then so be it, Im gonna have my top down and doing 90mph...Ill die with a smile on my face and joy in my heart. Tell me if those of you in a coupe can say that!
