Don't know for sure about your exact brand and model, but alot of the units can be "tricked" into thinking the vehicle is parked in order to have full functionality.
I have "heard" that this can be accomplished by grounding the wire that is intended to be hooked up to the parking brake switch ( or park gear sensor if you have an auto ). I of course do not condone doing this nor can I verify that it works like a champ on my Kenwood DDX7015 [sm=devilangel.gif]

The Kenwoods are simple to bypass that problem. All you have to do for those is ground the green parking sensor wire. What I did was I found a bolt that was on my car chassis near the radio unit and twisted the wire under the bolt. Works perfectly.
However for the Alpines and these Eclipse models I hear you have to buy a certain adapter and supposedly you can get it on ebay. The adapter runs an electrical current to the parking brake sensor wire to trick it and make it think that the car is always in park..
This is all done for your safety... Your not supposed to be watching movies or playing around with you radio while you are driving.. But no one wants the hassle of pulling over every 2minutes to change something.. I like hawgman dont condone it but boy do I love watching movies on the way to work in the morning! lol

I had the Jenson whatever in mine. It had a pink wire that had to be wired to the parking break. I just wired it with the black grounding wire from the unit I think the alpines have a special device you buy, but most can be bypassed by just grounding that "special" wire.

I just got that same unit and will be installing this weekend. Grounding the parking brake wire should do the trick but haven't tried it yet. The only thing that should be disabled is the DVD video playback according to the documentation.

RE: drive and use navigation system
Great post but I think it may have changed in the 2006. I'm looking at the wiring diagram from ford and pin 3 of C175E is grey/white and is the A/C clutch relay control. Pin 3 of C175T is dark blue/yellow and is listed is output shaft sensor signal 1. That sure sounds like the right one to tap into. Maybe they just changed the names of the plugs. For those looking for the vehicle speed wire listed as 14 on some of the audio wiring diagrams, it looks like that one was removed and the radio is networked in to the MP-CAN to do that speed volume function.
