Who has had a local shop do there axle back?
Thinking about having a place down the street that I have dealt with before make me a custom axle back. He can use magnaflows or flowmasters. I want it louder, but no droning. Anyone have a local place do it with good results? If so, what model mufflers did you use? FM 40's? 50's?

I recommend doing them yourself. They are pretty easy to do. Unless of course you need the shop to do fabrication. The stock pipes are simply clamped on and after some muscle and working at it you can easily remove them, and if you have a replacement exhaust that fits to OE standards, then all you need to do is slide the new pipe on, throw on the clamp. Slip it into the hangers, adjust it to the way you want it and then tighten everything up. I used a lift because I had put on an H-pipe as well, but for just an axle-back you might be able to do it in your drive way without a lift...
Hope that helps,

sooooo many axle-back systems out there, even by the manufacturers you listed! Why go custom, when you can buy it cheaper off the shelf and install it yourself? If you take the custom route, might as well have them install it too...

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I guess your right, just get the pre-fabs and do it myself. Originally I was thinking it might be a bit cheaper having a local place do it, but as it turns out its the same price anyways.

Definately do it yourself. I just got done putting on my Flowmaster axle-backs about an hour ago, and it was very easy. Took about an hour and a half, maybe less.

I had a local shop install an axle back system for me. It turned out pretty darn good. Here's a link to my post https://mustangforums.com/m_987500/m.../tm.htm#987500
I put on a single Dynomax DNX muffler. Its awesome, loud, and no drone. My local shop welded the muffler on, they told me that the clamped mufflers will start leaking after a few years...

No matter who installs 'em, be sure to center the tips in the body facia opening or it'll look retarded. I had to have the shop put the car back on the hoist and bend the brackets until it looked right.
