I THOUGHT ABOUT THAT, BUT WHEN YOU GET OLD THE MIND GOES AND I WOULD BE BUYING A NEW GAS CAP EVERY MONTH.

you can always cut the tether so the cap is FREE.

I've been a mechanical designer/draftsman since 1966 all drawings are done with capital letters.
I don't mean to be yelling it's just a habit and has become second nature to me. I'm sorry that it bother's you.

A few months ago, I stopped for gas and a few days later I was driving and my check fuel cap display came on. So I pulled over and got out and checked it and found it loose. I tightened it I did have a little scuffle that one day trying to get it on when I got gas but it was 3 days prior to this. I was driving home and it came on again. So I called the Ford Dealer and I explained to customer service what had happened. They said it may well take a few days for the computer to reset itself. I took it up to our friend of the family. He owes a garage and he called his buddy at the same local Ford Dealer when I bought my Stang from. He said we had to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, so we did. It worked and I drove home only to find that my mpg and mph were very low. After a few months driving with the numbers low thinking it would go higher (I drive locally from work and home) I found no change for the better part of it. I got gas tonight only to find that I never reseted (i never knew) the mpg and mph when that happened. I did reset them to 0 and found that the numbers going higher as I drove home.

On my first stop to get gas with the Mustang, as soon as I saw the gas cap hanging there hitting the paint, I removed the lanyard. Now I just place it on the pump while I TRY and fill up the tank.

I also made a engineering decision to cut the tether off completely. I'm just tired of screwing with it.
