Default Has anyone removed vinyl striping?

I had aftermarket vinyl stripes installed, the 3M 8 year type, about a month an a half ago. I want to remove some of the trim striping on the front bumper, wasn't done well and is annoying the heck out of me. I'm assumming a hair dryer and careful peel should get them off pretty easiy. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks...

Yeah, its pretty easy. Take a heat gun or hair dryer and get a corner of the stripe up and the just heat and peel the rest of the stripe right off.

when i had my spoiler striped, the dude cleaned up some edges for me that had been on the car for about six months. He just cut the part to remove, grabbed it and peeled at an angle and it left behind no residue at all. granted they were small sections and it was 100 out that day so they were hot already.

When my MCA stripes came off - maybe a couple of months after the car was built - there was some of the "glue residue" that would not come off easily (Using a low temperature heat gun). Heating the stripe a little, as it was pulled off, seemed to remove more of the glue residue. A "decal eraser wheel" and "acetone" got the rest of the glue residue off (Slow speed drill with decal eraser wheel).

Thanks all for your input. I removed the miscellaneous stripes on the bumper with no problem, just a little heat and careful peel. Wouldn't know they were ever there. Thanks.

Vinyl stripe removal - I own a vinyl graphics shop and have removed a few miles of vinyl of the years. (+1 on using a heat gun) A hair dryer is safer as there is less chance of bubbling your paint from overheating it. One you get an edge started it's helpful to have a second set of hands that can continue the heating process a few inches ahead of you. If there is any left over adhesive on the paint, use WD40 with a soft cloth and it will come right off. There are other adhesive removers available to sign and graphics shops that cost more and works great but WD40 works just as well IMO.
