Default Fiberglass Hoods and Hood Pins

Newbie to major body changes and this may be a stupid question, but I'm confused. I've read that for safety reasons, fiberglass hoods require installation of hood pins. Not a fan of the look with pins and I see a lot of pics without them. One manufacturer even states that pins are needs for speeds exceeding 85mph. Are they necessary or not? 85 not unusual for some highways, so its a concern. Anybody have any experience or concerns?

I ran a carbon fiber hood on my eclipse for 2 years multiple times over 100 and never needed pins

A lot of companies say that so they are not liable if something happens they aren't liable since they said you need them.
