Default paint issue on rear bumper

hey guys - the paint started to come off of my rear bumper in a weird area .. I am really at a loss for what may have caused it. the part that flaked off half way .. I was amazed by how thin our paint is. it was paper-thin at best .. D:

I swung by the dealership and they said Ford would not cover it .. but the dealership ate the repair costs for me.

it's not really in an area that would have been hit, there was no trauma or anything. kind of irks me that Ford did not want to cover it - I am glad my dealership is helping me out .. just seems like a cheap spray job on the bumper.

maybe I'm just being a baby, but over the 7 cars I've owned I hadn't experienced random paint damage like this before, especially on a new car. it was disturbing how thin the paint was too, I've seen other oem paint and body shop paints on cars that were 2-3x thicker.

I've experienced damage from people hitting my car at low speeds, and from someone cutting the paint with a knife or a key or something .. but this was a first.

well, good news - the repairs made it look like it never happened. I am really curious to see how thick the paint is though, I am going to have a painter buddy take some measurements for me.

It looks like it is right where the trunk opens at? If so you sure you didn't take something out of the truck and hit it accidentally? Glad it is fixed.

well, I'm sure *I* didn't drop something there, but who knows, there have been others that have unloaded from my trunk. it's a possibility! I would honestly prefer that to be the case, then I wouldn't have to be concerned about the rest of the paint on the car.

I am just relieved it is fixed and that my dealer took care of me without any hassle.

I have a really light spot on the right rear bumper edge where it meets that rear quater panel running across the whole seam. It seems like the rear and front bumper have a yellowish hue compaired to the rest of the car too...it is performance white.

Someone poorly repaired that bumper, sorry. Clear just don't peel of like that...
Probably happened on the dealer lot, not the first time that this would occur trust me.
Is it the same dealer where you bought the car from?
If so, that would explain their "understanding". lol.
