Tinters I have seen stick a screwdriver or something in the latch so door thinks its closed .. this raises the window. I had my 2010 tinted for 2 years ... no scratches ... my 2012 I had tinted after I got it .. also no scratches.

When I had my windows tinted I was told not to roll the windows up or down for at least 48 hours. When opening the doors the window doesn't move enough to make any difference. I've had my tint for about 2.5 years with no problems.

I have a 2011 and do have scratches in my tint. I haven't had it re-tinted yet for fear of the same thing happening again.

Get the moleskin installed and then retint.

what exactly is moleskin and is that something I have to put on before I take it to a tinter?
Oh, anyone know of a good tinter in the Daytona Beach/Orlando area?

Moleskin is felt on one side, sticky tape on the other. They attach it to your existing felt. This may make the window motors strain a little more to get the windows up due to the decrease in the gap but I haven't noticed it. If the tinter doesn't know how to do it, go to a different shop, because they haven't been in the game long enough. Hell, I actually helped my tech with the install because he said "what's moleskin?" when I asked if the front desk had relayed my request to have it installed. I never left my car's side while he tinted it because he seemed like a typical dropout and I didn't trust him even though the owners were cool. Sorry I can't help out with good tinters, I got mine done in Tampa.

I just got back from the tint shop with my top still down. When my tinter first saw my convertible this morning, the first words out of his mouth was "ah ****" lol. He knows about the windows rolling down and what a bitch it is to tint the rear window, so he began by tinting the side windows with the top down. They wanted me to keep the top down as long as possible today and go back tomorrow morning so the side tints had as much time as possible to dry.

I got my 2012 tints done at the dealership(had em throw it in with the buying price). No Scratches. Had no issues with the 1/4 inch down when opening the door. They also threw in a lifetime warranty, that if anything happened to the tints from normal window operation they would replace the tint.
