Default Aux Input Jack

So I put all new speakers in my car this weekend really wanted to add a subwoofer but just can't afford the price for the metra kit, new head unit, amp subwoofer. So I was wondering if I could tap into the aux input jack and splice in some female rca's and connect them to rca's to the amp. I took it apart and the wiring harness has 4 wires. I only found a schematic for a ford focus which says lauxI RauxI auxS and AuxO. I only use the auxilary option so this would be perfect for me...Anyone know if anybody has tried this and which wires to use (colors).

The wires you want would be LauxI (Left Aux In), RauxI (Right Aux In) and auxS (Aux Sleeve - actually carrying signal ground). One way to identify the right wires in the cable is to make up a "stereo mini plug," with open wires, and use an "ohm meter" to identify which wire in the cable goes to which part of the stereo connector. If this isn't your area of expertiese, a car stereo shop should be able to help for almost no cost.

The Aux In is an input, an amp would require an output. you could make the physical connections but there would be no audio. If you want to add an amp and a sub to the stock system, you will need an amp with "speaker level" inputs. you will then be able to tap into the stock speakers, usually the rear, for your signal. Its not as clean as a dedicated RCA out, but will do the job fine if you are unwilling to swap out the stock system
