Default 1/4 Mile time comparison

When I got this `11 I ran a couple runs at Martin US131 raceway. Pure stock the raw time was 14.84 @ 94.63.

Yesterday I went back with the 3.55`s and the Bama tuner. The conditions were very close in temp. etc. I was running 93 octane fuel both trips. Launches were from idle and no wheelspin occured.

First a tune which only adjusts the speedo and odometer for the 3.55`s. This leaves the engine untuned. Result was 14.48 @ 95.66 a gain of .36 sec for the gears alone.

Next a 87 performance tune. Result was 14.10 @ 98.4, another .38 sec gained.

My last two runs were with a 97 race tune. The results were 13.94 @ 99.24 and 13.93 @ 99.7. Another .16 or .17 gain.

The car weighed 3847 lbs with me inside and a half tank of fuel. No data logging has been done to optimize the tune.

Just thought I would publish the results here for us v6`ers.

I guess the question we have to answer; is a .9 sec gain worth the money spent? The answer will be individual for each of us.

I'm not seeing the value in it yet. ~$600 for a cold air kit and a tuner is pretty stiff. I did score gears from Shelby America for $25, plus shipping, so that will be my first mod.

How are you launching? What rpm? What shift points? What gear are you in crossing the finish line? What sort of 60' time and 8th mile ETs did you put up?

I ran my 6 spd for the first time this weekend and was a complete failure at launching it. 14.51 was my best of the night, but that was spinning the wheels with a 2.47 60' time.

I have no CAI. As I said, launch from idle. I have no wheelspin if track prep is good. The tranny was left in drive. TC off. I let the car do what it wanted. I cross the finish line in 3rd with the 3-4 shift occuring just after the traps. Shifts are around 6900 but I don`t watch the tach much.

A basic 6sp coupe should run high 13`s per others who have them. Learn the launch and you will probably beat any of my times easily.

My best 60 has been 2.1 as this engine has little power below 3k and while I like running it I an not willing to do much run-up against the brakes yet. Best 1/8th is 9.04.

Damn seems like you did a pretty good job with very little mods man! congrats, it's nice to see people that make the most out of their mods by simple testing and tuning.

Thanks, but I can take little credit. Ford made the real change with the 3.7. The gears and the tune did the rest. With no wheelspin and using only drive, there isn`t much to driving it either. Helps make being 70 still fun!!

I got in about 12:30 and spent about an hour getting thru tech. I believe I was about 10 cars from the front when you came in. I remember a car like yours entering the line well back. I made runs at 13.56,14.40,15.27 and 17:15.

I stopped to retune but other than that I was in line except for a couple stops at the concession stand. I didn`t see you again but I know what to look for now.

I talked to a guy with a blue Boss and he had only a low 13 due to smoking tires. See you there sometime.

Awesome. Yeah the guy in the Boss Mustang couldn't drive that car to save his life. I couldn't help but laugh because he hopped out of his car with his nose in he air and he wouldn't give me the time of day. He was sporting his freshly cleaned Piloti racing shoes as if he was going to conquer the world then he gets burnt at the light by the Evo and ran low 13's. He did end up managing a 12.9 110 mph run later though.

Definitely let me know when you're heading out the there next Spring. Would love to meet up.
