Default midpipes

I took my offroad x-pipe off today because I just couldn't take the noise anymore. I already miss the extra horsepower and am exploring how to compensate. I don't want to pay a ton of $$$ for a cat'd x-pipe if I already have the parts to get the job done. My first question is what is everyone's real take on the FRPP pipe? Second, how do y'all think it would turn out if I mated my off road x with the stock cats? I'm thinking of welding them to just the outlet side and rolling with it. Has anybody ever experimented with that? I know the stock cats restrict a little but it can't be that much. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

I have the FRPP cut and clamp on mine, it helps a little on the low to midrange but it mostly smoothed out the exhaust note, now the Short tube headers helped a lot on the low to midrange. It was enough even the butt dyno could feel it.

Siber, thanks for the reply. I already have tuned headers on so I'm a little spoiled from having a full custom exhaust. I love the way my car pulled after 2800 RPM. I'm just trying to ensure I don't lose completely.

I have the frpp cut and clamp x pipe on mine as well. It added a minimal kick in power and made the exhaust sound better. Sounds deeper and has a bit of a gargle to it. A catless v6 sounds like crap imo. I also have bbk shorties with a set of borla s-types. Sounds really really good. I always get compliments on it and mistaken for a v8 by some fools.

I was looking at the same X pipe but I have heard it adds rasp. Having Roush axle backs which have a good amount of rasp already I was afraid the X pipe was going to add to much. Someone needs to make a good H pipe for us.

As Siber said, no rasp to it. Just a bit of gargle. The roush mufflers are pretty raspy on these 3.7s. Not my cup of tea, but I bet an h-pipe would clean up the sound.

Lethal performance makes a H-pipe for ours but it's also cat-less so it's still the same situation as far as rasp and overall noise is concerned. I think I'm just going to list all of the stock parts on Craigslist and put the $ towards some high flow cats and resonators for my BBK x-pipe. Much like the stock mid-pipe but 2-1/2" all the way back. I hate spending a ton of money on just the exhaust but I want it right so I can move on to other mods.

Here's a clip of just the cut and clamp xpipe. Stock headers and mufflers
