I had added a CAI and tune at the time of changing driveshafts and some other stuff, then took it to the dyno. The CIA added nothing anywhere at all, we switched back to the stock original intake and filter and saw zero difference in numbers in back to back tests

I later ported the intakes myself and added shorty headers and went back to the same dyno where he 9the tuner/dyno operator) made several changes to the tune and I ended up at 299 on his dyno for a top number v I believe it was like 268 bone stock when I first went there for just a run and see for fun day. I was really hoping to break 300, but it just was not meant to be apparently

I am curious and have thought about buying someone elses ported intakes and seeing if the numbers are better

but the areas I saw the biggest gains were clearly abundant when driving, 2000-4000 is far improved, so much so the top almost feels flat. I was just loooking for the dyno sheet and don't see it in with all those removed oe parts and boxes, not sure where I stashed it at now. But from long ago memory I believe the first time I took it after mods of CIA and canned tune it was only around 10hp improved most everywhere
Post the shortie headers (rest of exhaust is stock PP affair) and the self ported intakes (upper and lower) the gains were much more inline with plus/minus 40 in the midrange area and 30 for a peak number, but that also included the tuner doing some tweeks to the tune
All on 91 ethanol free fuel, it is all I ever run

As far as real world results. I have taken the car a few times to some roadcourses (BIR and RA) and some autocross stuff and the local 1.1 mile 24 turn track, speeds are up at all venues with zero changes to tires or brakes or anything else since the first time to those venues
since then it has been lowered an inch and has brembo 14" front brakes, nnot sure that will make much difference but I have not been able to make time to get to any tracks in a couple years to see

as far as some of the fuel mileage checkers.... I can still get 30 or slightly better, but routinely get 25-28 when driving around the countryside of SW WI hillcountry and in the upper teens last time at RA. When it was all bone stock I could nudge out 35mpg, and routinely got 28-31 driving for a fun Sunday drive in Hill country. The fuel mileage is far less important to me than it once was as I don't drive any of my vehicels enough for it to make any life changing difference and spending $1000 a year or spending $1200 a year on fuel doesn't even matter to me. Even though if the $200 difference was all at once I would consider that excessive

Nice, thanks for the info.

I've pretty much decided to do the shortie headers and ported intake and call it good until the day I install a supercharger comes, if that day comes. Need to do some less exciting stuff before even thinking about a blower. Roll bar, harnesses, and clutch are on the short list. Maybe some Boss size wheels and tires too.

BBK shorties, ported intakes, CAI and tune

Not my graph, but I did base my mods off this and they claim to have ended up at 314hp and I ended up at 299hp (thus my thought on purchasing someone elses ported intakes and seeing if they do indeed add more than porting them myself got, I mean if there truly is another 15hp and @ $500ish, to me that is worth it)

at any rate, I did get 31hp improvement over stock, but noticed significant improvements where I typically drive (2000-3500)- feels like I gained a couple extra cylinders honestly....

Dynos aren't really meant to be compared from one to another. It's really a tool for A->B testing, and 300-315 is probably a fair range of variance from one dyno to another, so ballpark of 300+ to the wheels is a fair statement. If you've got the time and money to blow on a ported intake from somebody else to test, it might be fun, but I wouldn't be surprised if you see no difference.

Like I said in an earlier Post, If you end up with 305-315 rear wheel horsepower, you'll run the quarter mile in the high 12's. If you don't, the dyno is wrong

Not true. Way too many variables involved in drag racing to say X horsepower = X et. Traction, gearing, weight, transmission type, weather, etc. It all plays a role. Personally, I don't drag race, so I couldn't care less about 1/4 mile ET.

And most everyone doesn't give a care in the world to some drag racing number. I know absolutely no car enthusiast that thinks highly of 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile. Nearly everyone I know care about handling and performance in other ways. All of them are roadcourse and autocross guys in my world
