Cleveland can be built but it's REAL expensive...
I know some guy will come here and debate that but it sure look's like the Windsor is a lot easier build to me.....
Remember Ford sort of gave up on the Cleveland after about 5 years......
Find 351W block with casting's of C9 or D0. You won't find a low miler.....

the only reason people say that is cause you can't build a serious cleveland from the summit racing catalog. If you have experience you can build a C with antique iron heads from 35 years ago that will hang with any aluminum windsor head of today. You gotta know what your doing. The windsor parts availability made everyone an expert engine builder overnight cause they can put them together like legos

All the ' new' parts are for Windsor stuff. I know for a fact that the Cleveland can be built.
Considering the fact that the newest block you are even going to find is 30+ years why fool with it?
The Cleveland was a sort of good idea when It came out but who need's it?
Only thing I can think of is to make a 'Clevor' or sort of a Boss 347 but that gets to be sort of a high $$ deal wheen all is consierdred.......

Sort of a good idea? LOL Gee let's see, all aftermarket blocks run what main journl sizes? Let's see what antique iron cylinder head is banned from all sanctioned forms of drag racing? As far as the blocks are considered, there is a new one slated for prototype in 5-6 months. The C will be back big time.

Well he said stock parts. So here goes my thoughts. I have a 90 hatch car with a 71 Cleveland carbureted engine in it. 2V(meaning 2 barrel) heads that are factory pieces ported by a good friend in Michigan who is employed at ET Performance. I have Kieth Black pistons, stock rods with arp rod bolts and a stock crank. It also has 4 bolt main caps on all five mains. It is balanced and I have a flat solid cam in it with about 3500 bucks in the whole build. It is a small block, heads will interchange with windsors and it is smaller in size to the 351 Windsor. Cleveland 9.2 inch deck height Windsor 9.5 inch deck height. It has the smaller main journals(2,75 inch) to 3.0 inch windsor which equates to less bearing heat and speed. The make tremendous power when built right with stock heads as compared to the windsor stock headed motor and mine makes awsome all motor power with only 9.8 to 1 compression and 91 octane fuel. It does share the 385 series big block 429/460 ditrubutor and rocker arms but that is it. It has the small block bell housing bolt pattern and shares 5.0 engine mounts. Get a 351/400M truck oil pan that is rear sump and you can drop it right in a 79 and up Stang without a problem. Heddman hedders has trick hedders to place this bad boy right in there. Go with aftermarket Cleveland heads and watch out for big HP.

Anyone care to guess how well a stock headed Cleveland with 9.8 to 1 compression runs on 91 octane fuel with no power adders runs in a 90 Hatchback??????

On another note, I am currently building a budget carbureted 351 Windsor for my best friend. It will be a while and we are using Fordracing Take Off GT 40 Iron heads for this build. These are very close to factory type heads as they are not extravigant but when done and we get this street car to the track I can let you know what it runs on motor if anyone is curious. Could be a very cheap build that runs hard for budget guys like myself and my friend.

Best to date on motor with 36 degrees total timing and through the mufflers is a 10.91 @ 125.69 my eith mile was 1 6.9 something @ 100 flat. This engine has been run hard the last four years. Still thumps hard and has never been refreshed. I drive it everywhere.
