new motor

Default new motor

well i just bought a 1972 351w and am going to drop it into my 91 notch. but i need to findatransmission for it any suggestions, i need something semi cheap but will hold up to a pretty much stock motor for a while.

what is in there now? manual? the T-5 was the manual for that year, thats a perect tranny, can hold up to 400ish HP and torque from factory

wow cool, i got a 1972 351 windsor that im putting into my 90 notch lol.........for auto use a C4 thats what i got....and for 5-spd get a really BUILT t-5 cuz the stock ones cant handle the 351

you 2 are saying complete opposites for a stock T-5. anyone have any sites to back it up?

aaa whaaaaa???? first off, both of you are saying you got 72 windsor blocks, BUT what cars did they come from? the cleveland was put into most fords between 70-74.

and a 5 speed from a fox (t-5) between 90-93 should be able to handle a 351W no problem. now can it handle a cleveland maybe not. thats where your better off getting a TKO t-56 tranny

any t-5s 89 and before might need a little work but 90-93 should be fine

if you wanted automatic, c4 with a stall or just get a damn tremec! i would if i was going to buy a new tranny

a stock 351w doesnt really make all that much power, I figure you should be fine if you have a t-5. My buddy has the original t-5 with a s/c stock bottom end 302 and he is running mid 12's with this. So im pretty sure you should be fine for a while just as long as you dont beat the **** out of it and dont mod it much more until you upgrade the trans.
