RE: 5.8 vs vette?
what would be the best setup to push a 351 to the max. im wanting to end up somewhere around 550-600 n/a. A stroker kit isnt possible at this time, but when i get back from Iraq and have some money its happening.
its a carb'd 351, so i dont know where to start. im going for a holley 650 but what intake works. then cam will be next, heads are a little pricey and im on a tight budget. then i know nothing about cams....well i could tell you what i hear other people say and thats about it. exhaust will be after the cam.

RE: 5.8 vs vette?
You're going to have a hard time hitting 550+hp the
way you're trying to go at it.
You need to start from the ground up to get that kind of power.
408W with AFR 225's and custom cam and Super Victor intake with 850 carb
and 2" long tube headers running about 11-1 compression will get you up in 550-600+hp range.
You can make about 400hp with that 351W with some
AFR 185's or maybe some cast iron RHS200,
Vic Jr. intake and 750carb would be good with 1 3/4 BBK LT's
Look on ebay for cast iron RHS 200 heads, cheaper than you think
just make sure you get fresh valve job done, factory valve seats kinda suck.

when i get the 351w mustang is it gonna be able to hang with vettes, and since the answer is probably not what do i need to do to help get it there?

a 408 would be your best option with a stock block.
If you want a sick setup, a Dart Block with 427 cubic inches, will put you way ahead of the competition, and you can hammer that block up to 1,000 horsepower
and never worry again. But thats track competition.

$1,200 cast iron RHS200 heads
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Musta...mZ250081405792
bet you can get this one for under $150
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...ayphotohosting
750 carb
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Holle...spagenameZWDVW
Look around on the Corral.net and here for used Vic Jr. and 750 Carb
and used 1 3/4 BBK longtubes and used roller rockers.
If you can spend about $1,500 you can get real close to 400hp and get the power you're looking for.
