RE: 5.8 vs vette?
a stock 351w in a fox lays prob around 215-230 at the wheels and 300-330 fpt at the wheels. and a stock351w will not run a low 13 in theqt. mid-high 13 from what ivseen, the motorsneed to be built to go fast, the stock heads and cam are very restrictive. It was built to tow, not to race lol

These are normally a little quicker then time estimate but look, even a 2900 car (average weight of an LX) with 260 engine hp runs a 13.7, which in reality is arounda 14.0, even with 280 hp, (possibly full exhaust, and possibly mild cam) that brings you down to a 13.69 The numbers just dont add bud.

OK not knowing all deals here what I thinkā¦.
You are getting a 1987 Mustang XL for 1K. The engine in the car is all stock out of who knows what? So we will say 240hp with a carburetor. I would say Compression ratio is 8 to1 so I would not buy a cam until you can raise the compression to 9.5 or 10 to 1. So with no real money to buy heads let work with what you got. I would buy a used aftermarket intake and carb. Headers (used if possible) and a new exhaust Cat back system. Maybe a locale shop could hook you up or a friend. That should use up all your $ unless you buy smart!
Now if the car comes with good carb, headers and a good exhaust system then go with a power package top end kit. Heads, intake, cam, etc. but this will be more then 1K so you will have to save some more money. But with a kit you will be around 400hp and you just have to bolt it on. I have useda Top end kits before and I was very happy with it.
Now once you get back you could pull the engine and stroke the bottom end and reinstall the Top End Package for more HP.
