i think if a viper can handle the turns well, the suspension can be upgraded so it could too, and i think it would be cool to plow through them like a bull and the hit the straight and leave. its for fun not to win.
I would still argue that the wheelbase on a viper was designed to accomodate a V-10, which is basically all aluminum, that entire car was built around the concept of torque. The fox body is a decent performes in autocross, but there is a reason the new edge and S-197's are what folks are going o for serious competition. A well built small block with an experetly tuned suspension for road racing would leave the driver of a Viper crying in terms of Track, maybe not all out power but pure capability.

Just an opinion, I have always been a Fox body guy, in fact it is all I have ever built, and I would never plug in a big block unless I was going to do the straight line thing.

Buy an early era Mustang that has more wheelbase and more engine compartment room if you insist on putting a boat anchor in it

i agree with you, it will be mostly a straightline car, but it will see road atlanta 1-2 time per year with my buudy and his CRX. he is going to eat my *** in turn's, but he's good with those, but i will kill him on the straight. can i drive that track car you tuned?

LOL, my new project is in pieces. Won't be tuned for a while. But I'll make a deal with you, I'll post pics as the project develops.

And good luck to you man

why a 429? just find a 460 crank and put that in. the bb is so much better, 450 hp with a bb is like making 230 hp with a 302, its so simple, not to mention the MUCH more capability that thing has and the torque of a longer stroke big bore bbf. bb all the way.

go with the small block and if u want more power stroke it and through a supercharger on it.

i've got first hand experience, my buddy and i both have identical 86 coupes with the same rear gears, same upr tubular front end kits and 3 inch exhausts
His combo
429 big block, 30 over mild cam, edelbrock intake 750 carb, tko 600
best time on slicks 12.49 @ 109

My combo
351 windsor, 30 over, slightly more radical cam, vr jr intake, 750 carb, windsor jr heads
best time on dragradials 11.71 @ 115

His car has a TON of torque but it's so nose heavy that the xtra weight negates any hp advantage, plus he had to custom make his headers ( altho you can buy big block swap headers for an auto for @ 500 ) cause he has a tko 600.
