Default Block casting

I jsut got a new 87 with a 351. where can i look without puplling the block to see if it is sportsman block. the guy said it was. Here are some know issues. as well.

It has Ross pistons with trickflow R heads at 13.1 I think it has a completely stock maf and injectors probably has a stock comp. havent looked. and a stock distributor with a 6AL and two step controller and blaster coil. Where do i need to make improvements to those items to reall be able to romp on it appropriately. at high RPM it seems to really miss bad. not sure if it is spark or fuel related.

stock injectors and stock mass air. with R heads and 13 to 1. I am real surprised that it revs much at all it cant breath and needs more fuel. thats like running a mile breathing through a straw.

I highly doubt its 13:1 compression with that dinky of a fuel system

19# injectors are a stretch for a stock 351

Yeah somehting doesn't sound right. If anyone has the money to get "R" heads and ross piston and set it up to 13:1, then they would have done the fuel system. So I doubt it has the 13:1, them "R" heads, and no sportsman block.

Nik!

well i was told it was 24 lb injectors. but they look like stock fuel rails. ive never seen 351 rails but they look like stock 5.0 rails. I cant speak for the actual injectors but it definitely starts sputtering after 3500 or so. He gave me 3 xtra pistons and rhey are big domes I just think the guy ran out of money and everything but the actual motor, trans and rearis stock 5.0 Cause the motor is bad ***. just below 3500...lol. Im not Lets just say that there was a 13.1 351 what would be the best for fuel pump and injectors/MAF

what color are the injectors. 5.0 rails will work on the 351 you just got to make the fuel line crossover longer. what headers are you running on it? do you have plans to spray it or add boost?

A sportsman block will have the following casting just above the starter. No other castings are a true sportsman block. e6zm-6010-A351. If it doesn't have that then its not a sportsman. Ford racing labeled another block a sportsman for a few years but, it is nothing more than a stock production block that isn't as strong as the casting I listed above. If the motor is what he toldf you then you will need to upgrade the fuel system and the electronics. The rails won't flow enough for the combo. You'll need another mass air and atleast 42 lbs injectors. The stock computer can be tuned to work but, with that combo do not use a mail order chip. Take it somewhere and have it tuned on a dyno.
