Default 1996 351w Block

Whats the limits on a 1996 Windsor Block as far as how far can I push it without having the same failure problems that are prone to the 302 blocks. I have found one in a 1996 truck, and it's super cheap, $250 bucks and they pull it. Wanting to get into the deep 10's possible high 9's on engine only. Thanks

Woodsy, I sent you a PM, I don't know if you can receive them or not, if you didn't get it let me know and I will ask the questions again in here or over the phone or what ever it takes.

I was going to put one together with about 11.5-12.0 to 1 compression. Was going to get a set of AFR 205's or so with a custom cam for Jay Allen. Was wondering if I could stroke the late model block out to a 427cid or would it be a safer roll of the dice to leave it 408cid. Just looking for a minimum of 600 at the crank and everything after that will be just bonus HP.

427's are prone to rod clearance issues with the cam, the big end of the rod gets farther up into the cam tunnel. if your comfortable clearancing the rod then go ahead, I personally like the 408's best

If a man wants or just has to have one of the 427 windsor's, what do you recommend Woodsy? I will probly just stay with the 408, beings I have had so much trouble building this last car, I don't need any more surprise fugg up's. I don't know if I can safely handle much more crap outta this car I'm finishing up right now. I had to walk away from it yesterday so I wouldn't break something that wasn't allready tore up. But with persistance and the abiltity to controll myself much better than compared to when I was younger, I will manage to press on and finish my little beast.

I am not Woodsy but if you want a 427w buy a dart block and 4.125in bore and 4in stroke.
