2001 5.8?
hey everyone, im from camp pendleton, ca and im new to the forums. ive owned my fox for about a year now but the reason i came here is because a friend of mine is trying to get me to take over payments on his 2001 mustang but the details hes giving me on it just dont add up so ill see if its something you guys have ever heard of. alright first off he said it was an old unmarked police mustang but its green in color which is odd, its automatic which is normal, but he says it has the 5.8 in it. i didnt get the vin from it, i just glanced under the hood and he did look alot bigger then a 4.6. but something else that was stange, was that he told me he got rid of the 351 heads and put a set of port, polished, and milled set of 4.6 heads on the 5.8 block for better compression? never heard of anyone doing that, but anyone any advice or opinions on this car would be awesome cus i personally have never heard of anything like it. if hes lying just say so and if im being dumb please let me know so i dont buy a ****ed up car. thank you

he is lying and you need to do more research. they don't put 351s in mustang's after 1999 and only Saleen did that. and 4.6 heads wont fit a 351 5.8. Now they do make 5.4 but it is not even close to 351.

Yea post some pics if you can. He might have been flat out lying to you but he also might just be mistaken himself. If you can't get pics up then look up pics of the 4.6 intake and heads and then look up picks of a pushrod intake. They look nothing alike. In fact the entire engines look nothing alike. Here are a few differences to help you out
4.6/5.4: Altenator is in the center right in front of the intake manifold
5.0/5.8: Altenator is connected to a bracket and might be off to the passenger side of the engine
4.6/5.4: Upper radiator hose goes to a water neck on the driver side of the engine
5.0/5.8: Upper radiator hose goes to a water neck on the passenger side of the engine
4.6/5.4: A/C compressor is on the bottom of the passenger side of the engine
5.0/5.8: A'C compressor is on a bracket on the driver side of the engine
4.6/5.4: Power steering pump is on the bottom of the driver side of the engine. It is connected to the block
5.0/5.8: Power steering pump is on a bracket on the driver side of the engine. It is either on top or off to the far side
4.6/5.4: No distributor. 96-98 uses coil packs, 1 in front of both heads. 99-04uses coil on plug (no spark plug wires)
5.0/5.8: Big distributor right in front of the engine
4.6/5.4: All 8 fuel injectors should be visible just looking at the engine
5.0/5.8: The 4 injectors on the driver side are under the upper intake manifold
All are dead give-aways. None of these parts are interchangeable. If he did a swap then he would have had to carry over all components of the pushrod engine including the trans, a 94-95 k-member, and the ECU. More than likely he just doesn't really know these cars that well...or maybe someone lied to him and he doesn't know any better.
