If I can't afford the tuner, can I use my laptop temporarily to tune my car?

No. I would advise against it.

Well, for starters there is no way to interface a laptop to the cars computer. Unless you create a custom cable. Second, what software would you use?

I got mine to 116 or 117 and it just wouldnt accelrate anymore... I think they are getting away from making the cars shut off because some guy's family won a lawsuit cause he was driving like a moron and his truck shut off in the middle of a curve and he lost the power steering and went off the road and died.... or at least thats what I was told... seems possible.

Wow, that's serious. I think that would be pretty cool to not have a speed limiter that just shuts that vehicle off. I know they have the ones where it either won't accelorate anymore and the ones that make it so that it will just slow down.

What gives? I have an 05 standard with no traction control or anti lock brakes and about 7 or 8 months ago I buried the speedometer. I can also do major burnouts (no breaking) all the way through first and a good squawk when I shift into second. I don't understand what others are saying about speed limiting and not being able to spin there tires much. Anyone know what’s up with my car? I have no, and I mean no mods. In fact I need to replace my air filter next weekend as it's a little clogged.

I know what you mean I can actually do that with my car as well. When I"m going home and I'm on the road behind my house... I can rev high and pop the clutch and I can sit there and spin the tires all the way through first (just like you said) and ****** 2nd and have 'em squeek again (just like you said with your car) But if I'm sitting there with the clutch in or just have it in nuetral, my rev will top out at 3,900. I havn't tried my top speed though I got up to 105 and was coming up on my exit so I couldn't keep going.
