Default 4.5L Stroker

This question is more for rygen and peopel who know about it.

I have decided i dislike this vortech so i am going to get rid of it. i dont want to get another procharger either because im geussing i got lucky by not having problems with the first one.
So i have been looking at turbo and NA. Just a few questions about the stroker motors because i dont know alot about them. What would the hp gain of the 4.5l stroker motor be approx.? How will it affect the reliability of the engine? How will it affect MPG? And can i spray on top of it? Anything else i need to know? Thanks alot

Hmmm, Fazm and Blackfoot would be better to field this one. But I will answer what I know. Most guesstimates on a stroked 4.5 will be in the neighborhood of 260-280rwhp. You can have it built with a CR that is acceptable to Nitrous, which is one of SSM's specialities. They love building up motors for the juice!!!! Reliability and drivability are a huge concern of mine, becuase of the timing chains, and the tuning involved, I don't know how it would be for a daily driver honestly. If I go built motor, i will just go forged internals on stock CR and up the boost. That way car drives fine.

MPG.....damn, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I would start with an email to Doug@Bama. He tunes the SSM motors, and following that, maybe talk to SSM and some of the other shops that do stroker motors. Also google for stroker ranger motors. Check some of the ford ranger guys that have done it. I haven't logged into a ford ranger forum in 8 months. LOL.

Hope this helps.

he covered it pretty well. But i would add in general.. a 4.5 is probably not ideal for a DD, 4.3, or 4.4 is better, SSM said that 4.5 is "unexplored" and arent sure bout it yet.

you could mostly likely be boost safe with a 4.3 stroker.. 4.5 is really pushing it..

if you really want some bump on the street go with the 4.3, and juice it for the track..

if your gonna go that far.. do yourself a favour and forge your internals.. if you dont youll be kicking your own *** later
