petepete - if a (Ford Racing) tlok breaks, it goes back to one-wheel-drive. Other differentials may behave differently.

yep and you will just have to buy a new clutch pack

no the clutches in the t-lok in the rear diff, which is why i recomend detroit, they have no clutches to wear out

t-lok will be better in the snow... you will have twice the surface area that has power. you will have less of a chance of getting stuck and if you do spin both tires will spin evenly and you will have less of a chance of your car turning sideways and flying off of the road. I dont know what these other guys are thinkin.
Its obvious youve never driven a stang in the snow. Its one of the WORST vehicles for it. Light car - lots of torque.
It basicaly breaks down like this - open diff (1 wheel peel) is worse for getting going in the snow because obviously only 1 tire propels the car. A limited slip diff (T-Lok, Posi-trak,etc), provides power to BOTH rear wheels equally when going in a straight line, this setup obvioulsy gets going better in the snow.
As for control and stability, this is what was told to me by an engineer. In an open diff car, when the drive tire loses traction, 3 of the tires are still at 100% traction and only 1 tire @ 0% traction. With a limited slip diff, when the drive tires break traction only 2 of the tires are at 100%, therefore 2 would be at 0%.
And as for limited slip lessening the chance of a spin out or flying off the road, watch the 2 video's of the 2 guys in their Cobras showing off for the camera losing it and blasting into oncoming traffic. As you would observe in that video, even in PERFECT conditions, when the rear tires lost traction, the car went sideways. In a open diff car, even if the drive tire lost traction, the vehicle wouldnt have lost control.
Pimpin dont give advice about **** you obviously have NO idea wtf youre talkin about.
-P.

PS: Even though both tires spin equally, the rotation of the drive train and the pinion makes the back end of the car spin to the right.

Actually I have driven a mustang in the snow before. My last one was a 94 and I wrecked it in the snow and you are right, it is'nt a very good choice for a car to drive in the snow all that torque can be tricky, especialy if you only have power to one tire. As for the rear end comeing around on you with a limited slip, Yes it will and can happen, but mainly when the car has a different ratio from one tire to the other EX: If one tire spins a full turn and the other tire spins 3/4 of a turn, then you will have more pull on one side than the other, but there is a lot more pull on one side in a car with only one tire spinning. The one tire spinning will pull you off to that side harder, but the fact is that you have much less chance of loosing traction with 2 drive tires instead of one. So your odds of something like this happening all together would be less. That is why people put T-Lok on their cars in th first place, to get more traction. If what you are saying is true than an all wheel drive vehicle is the worst kind to have in the snow.
