Performance Module, Venom 400 Series, The Venom400 performance control module is an add-on control unit that features it's own micro-controller. This module is connected to the throttle position sensor and the Manifold absolute pressure sensor. Improves horsepower up to 25% throughout the entire 1,000 - 5,000RPM range.

Basically, the Venom 400 tricks your throttle position sensor to think that you're flooring it all the time--even though you just partially pressed on the pedal. You can get the same result by just flooring your car all the time. It wastes your gas. This module is made for a number of cars. I used to go to another autoforum site when I owned my previous car, and a bunch of people went in on a group buy for the Venom 400. The technical guys quickly figured out that this thing was a joke and had ZERO horsepower increase.

So, take it off your new '97 Mustang. It's just hurting your mileage and if you want the effect, just floor it all the time.

Default RE: Venom performance control module?

People put it on because they believe the false advertisements. It costs $300-$400, so most people assume that it must be worth it.

Here's another explanation:

The Venom 400 is a device which claims to improve non WOT performance by 20 to 30 percent. Sounds great right? All from a simple device you plug into the ODBII connection on your computer.
Read what it does again carefully. When you don't have the car floored, acceleration is increased by 20 to 30 percent. When the car is floored, performance is identical.
So what is it doing? Say you have the gas pedal at 50%. The Venom 400 tells the computer that you've really got the gas pedal at 70%. It "feels" like the car has more oomph, but it doesn't; the device is just fooling you into thinking your car is accelerating faster. You can get the same effect for free by pushing down on the gas pedal further, which is really all the Venom 400 is doing for you.
