port and polish

RE: port and polish
well gash went to ssm, he didn't go to a machine shop to get it done, so it cost him alot more than it would cost to just take the specs to a good machine shop and get it done. I would say get a full heads/cams package from one of the people that offers them right now rather than just p&p'ing the heads. There is alot involved in removing/installing the heads, so you might as well toss some cams in there while you are at it, and do some extra valvetrain work. gash gained 25rwhp with just heads (no cams) on a mustang dyno with an auto. Lots of people have made 200+rwhp with the usual bolt ons so probably 230rwhp is pretty doable without cams and all. I'd say with the cams you could see 240ish rwhp. With the extra flow you would probably benefit from long tubes and a freer flowing exhaust too, so i would go ahead and say that 240rwhp is easily doable with a great tune and full exhaust/the regular bolt ons with heads/cams.

To do a set of heads figure easy 10-15 hours per head, depending on the extent of work. 20 hours to do an intake. Sounds like alot, it is. It's very time consuming to do it right. Pocket porting is $350 easy. (that's doing the first inch or 2 and matching intake. Even if you buy all the tools yourself don't think "I could do it in a couple hours" Not a chance. But it does give you serious hp gains. I did Pocket porting on a BB and knocked off a second in the quarter. Did an intake for my brothers 9 second altered and knocked off 3/4 of a second. So if your looking for better quarter mile times it's worth it.

lets not forget gash is actually only makin around 209rwhp on a dynojet with his heads. having problems with 1/8th mile ets. his times are more matchin a 209rwhp dynojet car than a 225rwhp mustang dyno car. mustang dynos can be calibrated very wrong.
