So the forum member who upgraded his basic V6 no-frills cluster to the 6
guage GT cluster and claimed that he had 6K or so on the original cluster
and when he drove it home from the stealership it had almost zeros miles
on it was pulling our leg??

I dont see buying a cluster off eBay and having it work without loading
the as built data for the VIN# of the stang it is going to function in.

Just passing on what I have read in the forum over the year or so.

well i'm no ford mechanic or anything......but perhaps if you upgrade from a basic cluster to a premium cluster (mycolor or whatever you wanna call it) it doesn't communicate correctly with the pcm. i have heard of members who upgrade to the gt500 gauges have to have it programmed.

i'm not 100% on this.....i'll defer to you since you have more posts than me lol

No one knows it all and I am always
trying to learn something correct
and new about the S197s.
The only way to learn is to ask questions.
The service manual is not complete enough
in the area of upgrading clusters but replacement
of defective clusters with the same cluster. Then
the 'as built' data should have been downloaded
from the 'bad' cluster if possable or from the web
for the VIN# and uploaded to the new similar cluster.
Swapping clusters for the message center or more
guages is just not covered at all. Go figure.
