car only idles has no throttle response
I bought a car hit in the front. Putting it back together and it starts but nothing happens when I push on the gas. Nothing at all. Doesn't rev at all. Anyone have any ideas what would be causing this? I thought maybe the MAF sensor but it should still rev, right? or atleast run crappy. 05 4.0 base automatic. Hit on the right front. Thanks

It's likely something in the drive-by-wire system. The computer doesn't see the signal that you're pressing the pedal.
Why would you buy a wrecked car? To me in only makes sense if you REALLY know these cars inside and out and have the knowledge and tools to do what needs to be done.

I have been buying wrecked cars for probably 5 years and fixing them. Never ran into a problem like this before. Price is about 1/4 of a non wrecked one. That is why I buy wrecked. Thanks for all the good info.

Sounds like one of 4 things:
- the accelerator pedal sensor is unplugged or bent out of the way inside the car (not likely, but possible)
- the ecu or wiring to/from the pedal sensor or the throttle body is loose or cut (possibly, if it was hit on the passenger side front, by where the ecu and wiring is)
- the connector to the throttle body is loose (make sure it's plugged onto the throttle body; it's easy to see as it is right up front)
- the throttle body or stepping motor is broken (if the car was hit form the front such that the impact hit the top of the air intake path, this is very possible)
Usually a dtc would be thrown, but if there was visible damage inside the engine compartment, something could easily be broken there or a wire cut.
Might sound like a lot, but there's 3 systems connected by wiring (pedal position sensor - to - ecu/computer - to - throttle body motor/sensor).
