Default Replacing the Flowmaster exhaust

Ok, maybe I'm just getting old, but the flowmaster exhaust I have on my V6 mustang is just too loud, at low speed and high speed, cruisin around town, and on the highway. I need an exhaust that sounds good when you hammer it and doesn't buzz when you are just cruising along.

My truck has a SI/DO magnaflow 18" muffler, and it sounds great, made a few extra HP's, and is very quiet when on the highway, or whenever the engine is outside the power band(2000-2400 rpm's), so I know it can be done

Would either the GT Takeoff muffler setup be just as loud or louder, or a similar magnaflow setup?

Like this one:

I gotta do something, please offer some advice!

I'm guessing you have dual exhaust already? X pipe or H pipe? If so, then why not just trade out the mufflers for some GT take-offs? They are aggressive when you stomp on it, but also mellow when just cruising. Magnaflow is also nice and mellow.

If you've ever heard the exhaust on a G35, thats what GT Takeoffs pretty much sound like but, a bit deeper...I really love mine.

Jasoon,

I once had a single flowmaster too (I assume you have a single). At first, it was awesome, but as time went on, it did get very annoying with the drone and all. Decided to put on a resinator. It definatly got rid of the drone and quieted the muffler down a lot. Once again, time went on and i decided it was time to run a dual exhaust kit. I went with the FRPP kit and am quite happy with it (aside from finding out i got gtbs instead of gtas but thats a whole other story). Now I got the looks of a dual exhaust and a nice deep sound with NO drone. I'd say you should definatly go for that kit you linked as it is essentially the same as the frpp kit but with regular gt mufflers. It is a good coupple hundred bucks less expensive then the frpp kit for pretty much the same thing. If/when the time comes that you want to change your axlebacks for something more agressive, then you are set to go, but that kit will give you a nice sound with a-hell-of-a-lot less drone then the flowmaster (Please not I have zero experience with this particular kit). Definatly a good set up for the price. Keep us posted!

I'd go with the same set up as your truck... you will get the same result

I have 22" round magnaflows... you can go with 18" or 22" both will sound awesome with NO DRONE! loud noise all goes out the back and not vibrating into your head

Are these the "round" mufflers you are referring to?

I did see a couple of clips on youtube of dual magnaflow systems.

The setup that this guy has sounds fantastic. However, some of his comments hint around that the magnaflow systems are pretty loud while cruising on the highway...

.... It sounds from your comments you have a different experience with the magnaflows on the highway?

No drone is a good thing!

Yes that is the round mufflers I have BUT in that link the mufflers is 14" in length... which is probably loud and drones

I have two 22" round mufflers on: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=7834

Rumbley sound in the city and quiet on the freeway.. trust me I had flowmasters before like you and the magnaflow set up is waaaaay better

Your ears will thank you

HERE IS MY SET UP (muffler shop custom H-pipe...22"mufflers...4" tips)

if your lookin for something quiet and somewhat aggressive when you stomp on it, the gt take offs are probably your best bet, theyre prob the quietest out of all of them

Just had the same FRPP kit installed as DRFISTER and I must say I am quite happy. It is the first exhaust system I have had that has no drone. From inside the car with the window's up you can hardly hear it. I would say it is slightly louder then stock inside the car. I have not heard it from the outside considering nobody else has driven my car but when driving under a long bridge it sounds incredible. Considering I have only had the kit on for 100 or so km's I am not sure if it gets louder as it breaks in.

The kit is very nice and I believe it is the only kit that comes with bumper inserts to cover up where you trim the bumper. Also thhe 3 1/2 inch tips look great. Only downside to the kit for me was the fact that it was very expensive.

does it come with 2 inserts or 1? wouldn't it look like kinda funny if one side had a cover on it and one didn't?
