Default Rear Gear Advice

I would like to go to a 3.73 8.8" T-Lok rear end this year. I want to do it as cheap, yet reliable, as possible.

I was originally looking at NTO for the whole thing for around $800 + Shipping... more than I want to spend.

Recently on craigslist, a 3.55 rear showed up and the guy is asking for $550 with 12k miles on it.

It's not the gears I want but higher than my 3.31's and cheaper than the NTO. I may swap 3.73's or 3.90's in it but that would be about $250 for parts (not installed)

I was thinking of maybe $300 for the rear end. What price should I be expecting to pay for it with 12k miles?

NTO has a 3.31 rear for $600 and if I am going to swap gears anyways I would get a newer/less used rear right?

Thanks for any guys who can give insight or tell me how much they paid for their 3.55 rears.

In all honesty, I am saying this out of my own experience, it is just better to pay a little more and get something that is new take off and not modified by anyone. I wish I would of just gotten the 8.8 instead of building mine. This site is a little cheaper than nto.

Depending on how much you drive the car on the highway/freeway, you may get 3:55 with your 8.8. Less wear on the engine and slightly better gas mileage. I went from 3:73's in my 7.5 to the 3:55 on my 8.8 and there is some slight difference but 3:55 8.8 is probably cheaper.
