Default 05-09 GT muffler fit on 2010 V6?

Will a GT muffler from 05-09, whether it be a regular GT, GT500, etc. still fit properly on a 2010 Mustang? Will it bolt on directly? Wondering if the tip will line up properly with the valance cutout?

Also, if all I can find is a GT500 muffler (automatic) will it still sound better than stock as opposed to a manual which is supposed to be less restrictive?

Thanks for the help,
Mark

It'll fit but the tip may be a tad short coming thru the valance. Alignment usually takes a little effort but it's pretty simple to adjust, especially if you have another set of hands. It's all bolted so a little loosening of the axleback and midpipe clamps then some wiggling will get the tips centered unless something is bent.

I believe the OE GT500 muffler will be a tad louder than the OE muff from a manual GT.

Thumbs up Nuke, you rock!

Thanks for the quick reply, Nuke! It is very much appreciated!

So, the axleback pipe on the 05-09 mufflers (including GT500) are the same diameter as the 2010 midpipe? 2.5", correct?

Thanks again!

Mark, everthing will fit and line up the way it's supposed to. The only difference is the Muffler tips are about 2 inches shorter then the 2010+ mufflers and the exhaust tips will be recessed. And yes everything is 2.5"

I would recommend going with a dual exhaust though. I have the NewTakeOff.com dual exhaust kit with GT mufflers on mine, but unfortunately they no longer have the 2010 gt mufflers so they only sell the 05-09 dual exhaust kits. From what I understand is that they will sell the kit without the mufflers for around $260 + shipping.

I found this Ebay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2010-...Q5fAccessories

Is this a GT muffler? I would assume it is since it has the rolled tip and my 2010 V6 does not. Also, there is no little welded weight doohickey thing. Speaking of which, what is that thing? Would this be a better fit/sound since it is a 2010 and off a manual tranny?

Thanks yet again,
Mark

If it IS off a GT manual, then it will improve your exhaust note slightly. But it's impossible to tell without seeing the Ford stamping on the underside of the muffler. The P/N will confirm. There are other threads that list the p/n for the OE GT mufflers off the manuals and automatics.

I've seen the welded dohickey on the V6 muffler off my g/f's '06 when I installed my takeoff GT muff on her car. But I don't know if that also applies to the entire V6 line from 05-10.

I have 05-09 OE GT mufflers sitting in my garage right now...PM me and we'll talk if you want them. They do need some cleaning.

Here is the 2005-09 muffler compared to the 2010

The other difference is the size of the tips, 3 inches vs 4 inches on the 2010
2008 GT take offs on my 2010

The 2010's on my car

And the 2009 and back mufflers are coming out under my car, not out from under it

Wow! I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread for the excellent information. The pictures really helped.

The part number for the Ebay listed muffler was indeed off of a manual. I called a Ford parts guy and he did verify.

Will let you know what I go with.

Thanks all!
