You bought the car last week and the clutch wasn't slipping during the test drive?
So, if the clutch is fried, they won't fix it?? Sounds like they are sticking it to you!
Are you able to return the car?

I took it into the dealership's mechanic, and he said that it was indeed the clutch, and that it needed to be replaced. He said it would cost $1,286 for parts and labor, and then he called the dealership, and told them that they had to pay for it, because it was clearly an existing condition, and they agreed.

+1, and $1300 is wayyyyyyyy over priced clutch/labor costs. I paid less then that for a clutch, transmission, drive shaft swap at a performance shop...Good thing the dealer is eating it.

+1, I was thinking the same thing! That price is way too high. Good to hear it will all be taken care of through the dealership. Might was well upgrade to a high performance clutch, if you are able. ;-)

Local FORD Stealership quoted me $1800 to replace a clutch... inclusive of throwout bearing, etc.

That was in 2009 and I thought it was NUTS. I have the "helicopter" clutch in mine. There's a TSB on it.... it's annoying but does not effect the life or performance of the clutch so I just live with it.
