What will it take?
Firstly, the LS1 motor in the Trans Am is the same as in the Vette. 350 HP. With slightly restrictive intake and exhaust, his WS6 might be a few ponies shy of the Vette. The garden variety stock LS1 Trans Am is putting over 300HP to the rear wheels meaning they are up near 350HO at the crank (not the "advertised" 305).
Also, Trans Am LS1's with common mod's as air box cut out (free mod) and cat-back ($200.00), typically drop to high 12's.
This is why the LS1's are so damn fast.
The only was a '97 GT is going to keep up with a stock LS1 is with major engine mod's and/or intercooled blower ($6,000). Even with this investment, you still might loose top-end as the LS1's pull like a raped ape after third.
With just 4.10's and an intercooled supercharger, yes you will be near a stock LS1. But, with 4.10's, the stock LS1 will still walk all over you top-end.

I hate to sound like a p00n here but I seriously think your putting too much into this. I mean you're talking thousands of dollars just to beat this guy's stock LS1 or WS6 or w/e the **** they are. Think about this: you get your mach engine and some n2o and some gears totaling let's just say 7 grand after labor and such. So then you go and teabag the son of a bitch and he goes hmmmm i'm getting beat here. So this yuppy **** goes and buys a catback for 200 bucks and he's got you beat again. Modding your stang should be out of fun, not out of malice and trying to beat one person.

I don't think you want to swap to a mach 1 engine man. Lots of money, need new harnesses, computer, etc. If you realy want a mach 1 engine and you have money like that to spend just get a mach 1 and have a much cooler car.
BTW, if you put a full exhaust with lts on there, and the mach 1 swap, you would have the LS1 easy. Gears would just make it worse.
Ls1 are fast, but they are not unstoppable. I have seen several videos of mach 1s outrunning LS1s stock for stock.
Hell, if he upgraded to even a 3.73 and a stock mach motor with stock mach exhaust (dunno why you would pay to put stock manifolds on, but just for the point) I think he would win.
I agree, having a mach 1 my self i know what they can do. Last year with out my 4.10 I ran a 13.26 at my local track on stock tires. Now with the gear and some new tires im looking to be in the 12s, faster then a lot of the ls1's at my track.
Don't get me wrong they are awsome cars, but they are not untouchable.

That’s what I was thinking! I would do all the work myself with the help of a few friend that have gone to school for this stuff so it will not be $7000 for all that! I have lots of family that works for ford so the new engine will not cost that much. The most will be getting the after market parts. My plans for my car is to have a 97 GT that people will think is only like 200hp and be able to pull at least 11 sec on the track. I was going to go to the DOHC 32V 4.6L (I will Mod it before it goes in) with the T-56 tranny 4.10-1 at the rear.
Again I just wanted to know how much of this I should have done before I let him race me! I don’t want him to just smoke me so that he can talk more S***! P.s. he know nothing about Modding a car so he will not be doing cat-back, gears, or anything like that! The only thing his car has is mufflers and the car came with that!

In that case unplug one of his spark plug wires maybe you can take him if he is down a cyl.

I think just the engine alone will keep me close because he is at 305-hp @ 5,200 rpm and 335 lbs.-ft. @ 4,000 rpm where I would be at 305 HP @ 5800 RPM and 320 ft./lbs. of torque @ 4200 RPM!

Gears and nitrous and you`ll have a win.
Gears and nitrous and you`ll have a win.

People buy mustangs becasue they like them. Not to blow camaros. Sure you can get nos ext... but that does not reflect the true performance of the vehicle.
