blower switch

my fan for the heating/cooling will only work on the max settig. already replaced the switch. what could it be?

maybe its the motor relay, its supposed to run of several speeds, and its obviously not. check the fuses for it, then check the fan motor itself. maybe its on its way out, how does it sound, any wierd smell?

Check out the blower motor resistor. That's most likely the problem. It should be mounted somewhere in the blower case close to the motor itself. Other than the switch, that's what controls the speeds. That's why it only runs on high. That speed by-passes the resistor.

+1 it's the resistor. The max setting is on it's own completely independent circuit, that goes around that resistor.

Once you have the resistor out, have a look if it looks un broken try cleaning the connectors and re connecting... or for the few bucks get a new one.

I had a car come into my work that had that problem, and ended up that the resistor connector was just dirty.
