Default RE: axles

there are FRRP 31 spline axles. a lot of people on other forums have them and they love them. On that forum there are people running 10's with 31 spline ford axles. I think the price can range from $220-$320 for any axles.

You will need a new carrier.

I just want to replace the stock axle for now. Would any axle from '99 to 04 work?

a lot of times you shear the teeth off of the carrier instead of the axle.

If you were to upgrade the carrier would you have to re-shim the rear or would the pinion depth and backlash stay the same even with a new carrier? I'm thinking of going to a 31 spline unit before I run my car with the DR's out back, and I would love to be able to do the rear in my garage, but I don't have much experience setting backlash and whatnot. I swapped the gears on my car myself, but I still had to have one of my buddies check the backlash, and I don't want to have to drag him out to my place again.

A new axle will run around $100 a piece from Ford. You can find them on Ebay as well. You should have posted this a couple of months ago. I sold a perfect pair for $40. Factory is 28 spline, don't try 94-98 Mustangs. Some say they will fit, but they won't. They are 3/4" too short.

Damn I wish I had posted earlier. 'Cause I know exactly when I bent the axle and that was like 7 months ago. Thanks for the info Jg.

Will these work? I'm trying to find out from the seller why they are so cheap to see if its too good to be true.
