Just be sure to get oil changes regularly and change all the fluids and take care of her. If you do, it will last a lot longer.

how much do you drive that thing. i have seen an 02 diesel with less mileage than your mustang. you need to somehow get rid of it and get a new one.

I would get a shift kit installed in the transmission.Nothing crazy just something to firm up the shifts. This saves the clutches in the transmission from unnecessary wear and goes a long way in keeping the tranny alive. You can get a chip that will do the same thing but a chip won't change the tranny fluid or inspect for damage and wear.
Next I would change the brake fluid.Brake fluid draws moisture and turns brown. It's supposed to do this to keep water from pooling in the calipers, causing corrosion and lowering the boiling point of the fluid.
Now change the other fluids, all of them, power steering, coolant, oil, rear end,and make sure the A/C is carged comepletly and has plenty of lube oil.
You don't have to do this all at once but I'd do it soon. Most of this is to look for neglected areas.

If you want to increase the life of your tired auto get yourself a tranny cooler. SummitRacing sells a nice B&M cooler for about 60-75 bucks. It's a kit so it has all the lines and such that you need. It will help extend the life of your auto tranny. Performance wise, get some gears. And keep your oil changes regular. 3k miles. If it was/is well maintained, it shoudl still have many many miles left in it.
