try adjusting the clutch and changing the fluid. Most manual transmission vehicles I've been in always grind reverse a bit if you click them in gear real quick. Try going from another gear, like put it in 2nd and then reverse, should have no problems

does the sound resemble a honda civic in reverse? Because mine makes the same sound only when in reverse though.

well that whine cannot be helped. Reverse has the input gear driving an idler gear that drives the output gear...

however with 1-5th gear it is just input to output, so that extra gear causes the whine in reverse, but a lot of manual trans cars I have been in grind in reverse, it's just the nature of the gear i believe

about 75% of people I know with mustangs, regardless of the year or mileage, have problems getting into reverse. I have to go into 2nd then reverse most of the time, and sometimes I have to put it into first and release the clutch a little, then go into reverse.

Apply the brake while shifting into reverse. I think there is some kind of sensor that doesn't like it if you shift into reverse without the brake on.

when you have this problem, are you putting the shifter into reverse with the clutch in, but rolling forward at slow speed? or does it happen when the car is not moving also?
