Idle Air Control Valve Motor

Idle Air Control Valve Motor
Hi guys.
I have had a problem lately with my 2000 GT rev's hanging high while shifting through the gears, or even on a simple rev-up at idle. My rev's do not drop very quick, and actually will "hang" high, and drop VERY slowly. I have replaced the Idle Air Control Valve motor ($85), and the problem did not go away. I have however, completely unplugged the unit, and the problem goes away. At a stop light, the idle is a little less that normal, but does not choke off, and will not stall. There is no check engine light on at all, and everything is running the way I want it to.
Question" Will this hurt my engine at all? Does anyone have this issue? What pisses me off the most about the rev's not falling out fast enough...it will put excess wear on my clutch, and waste a **** load of fuel. Engine is stock except for K&N Filter...that's it.
Anyone??
