can you do it while they are in a 01. is it a tough job?

Very big job, very big PITA. It you take everything off the block, everything. It is a fun job, lots of work. You can do it with the motor in. Get a Chilton or Haynes manual to help you out. You will learn a lot about your car by doing this. It will be a fun headache.
