i just got my LMI's put on. i have high flow catted H pipe and the LMI catback. it sounds MEAN!! but i was also wondering the difference in the LMI's and a cheap straight through muffler or even just the pipe.
i bought the LMI's because i heard they were good stuff. AND IT'S TRUE! i love the sound of my car now

I don't think you'll be very impressed. I had straight dual exhaust from the headers back to the tail pipes with NO cats and ONLY thrush glass packs (28" long each) on a 320hp 350ci and it was loud but not ridiculously loud. I can't imagine it'd be that loud on a 281ci motor.....

would it be a better idea just to get different mufflers? like a pair of flowmaster 40 series? i dont really want to buy a catback for my car, but i just want it to sound loud and different than it does now. i was thinking about maybe getting the mufflers and then just getting some turndowns.

You could always look into the long "chambered" glass packs they make now. Apparently they're pretty damn loud.

I've never heard straight up glasspacks on a 4.6, I'm intrigued to hear it. Any shop that does a lot of exhaust work will be able to help you out. Be warned... glasspacks = high flow + loud muscle car sound, and you just may like um!

our impala has glasspacks... nice idle, nice cruise, when you hit it... it roars! Makes my flowmasters on the stang sound silent
I have 8" turbodyne glasspacks on my stang and it sounds so, so good. And, no it does not sound like some 50s truck.

sweet! I'd love to hear um. Our impala has glasspacks, sounds bada$$ and then I get back into my mustang and it feels like silent

Here is a really bad recording: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/2...603D2839F8.htm

I have some others that sound much better, I have not had a chance to post them online yet.
