Default shortie or long tube???

will there be a significant power gain if i go with long tube headers instead of shortie?? i wanted to do long tube then h-pipe then catback...not sure on brands yet but how does this setup sound? i was thinking magnaflow....and another thing isnt the main difference between h and x pipe is that the h pipe allows the pressure to equalize and the x pipe is designed so you have pressure against pressure where the is. i have heard that x pipes sounds better but which ones perform better. i know this is a louded question but i want the best. thanks

I understand short tubes are good for about 5 rwhp and long about 10, depending on the rest of your mods of course. Its a lot of money and a huge job for so little gain, have you done all of the other bolt ons?

Longtubes definitely will give you more HP, but only if you get a good midpipe(H or X) and a good catback... also if you decide later to get a supercharger this setup will give you a LOT more power than using regular shorties.. remember shorties are almost like the stock units. My car has LT+Hpipe+borla c.b. and the sound is loud and mean[sm=smiley16.gif].. it definitely turns heads and the gains are around 20whp-30whp. if you have any other question just let me know.... Greg

I would say that the difference is minimal probably 1 or 2 horses at peak..I think is not worth it for a street car.. however if you have a blower It may give you more more HP.....

get the LT's. they sound great and seeing as the 4.6 is an OHC engine, they work hand in hand by giving top end power to an engine that needs to rev.

It was quoted to me that if I go with long headers, three inch catted x pipe and cat backs that I would have an increase of 30 to 40 H.P. and this would run me about 1400 to 1500 to do it. I was also told that to get the long headers in a 02 GT that they would have to drop the whole front suspension.
