Wow.... 5 speed guys... oh well.

I have an auto and have been looking into the same thing. Look into a shift kit by TransGo.. gives you FULL MANUAL control over gear shifting whithout having to operate the clutch. You can also get kits of milder degree if you like. Fully manual shift kit+higher RPM stall will make your tranny equal to if not better than 5 speed.

Don't let that fool you. You will not be able to run a quicker ET by shifting yourself. Can't outshift an automatic transmission manually...

it would probably cost as much as the car to change over to a 5spd. just buy a new one or if you really want to get something done about when the auto shifts gears, look at performance chips. i hear automatic stangs have seriously f***ed up shift timings and a chip can change when the gears shift. and if you're looking for power, then just buy some bolt-ons. those add up, maybe a little at a time but you can do them yourself and they give some power. screw the transmission unless you really MUST have a MT, work on your exhaust from the headers back. i don't know, i haven't slept in 2 days so that might also be that talking right now but sure don't convert the tranny. HUGE waist.

Don't be too discouraged. There is a shop in Nassau NY that does auto to manual swaps in anything, they do it rather cheap and do a great job.

They quoted my 88 Iroc-z for $2,700 - including a T-5 tranny & all parts needed.

It'll make your shifts more firm and alittle faster.
