Default Automatic to a Manual?????????????????????????

I have a 2000 Ford Mustang GT automatic. Is it worth it to change it over to a manual? If so, should I take it to a Ford Dealer Serves Department to get it changed or somewhere else?

Not worth it. If you want a 5 speed get rid of yours and just buy one. If you're worried about not having as much power there's a lot of stuff out there for autos, look into it.

I totally agree with Vert. To drive a sporty car like a sporty car you need to have control of gear shifting. Not worth the cost of converting, sell it a buy a manual.

Wow.... 5 speed guys... oh well.

I have an auto and have been looking into the same thing. Look into a shift kit by TransGo.. gives you FULL MANUAL control over gear shifting whithout having to operate the clutch. You can also get kits of milder degree if you like. Fully manual shift kit+higher RPM stall will make your tranny equal to if not better than 5 speed.

you know, a title of "automatic to manual" would have made more sense...

and a built *** auto tranny will almost always make it ride like hell and do necksnapping shifts even in regular driving. 5 speed at least you can drive it like hell when you want, and tone it down other times.

No offense meant, SenorJ, but giving full manual control means you can shift at whatever RPM's you like. The only thing you don't have control of is the clutch. Some of us have lazy left legs

Does anybody know how much this would cost to get done? And where could I get it done? At a Ford Dealer?

get a shift kit and break your neck lol. its fun i used to have one on my T/A i would go shift kit but thats my opinion. 5 spds are more fun but i dont know if its worth all the hassel to switch.

you will never have what u like to call "full manual control" unless u have a manual tranny, i dont care what the ad says the kit will do, but an auto will never be controlled like a manual. sorry

Manual valve body? Shift at whatever RPM's you like without a clutch. Seems like all the +'s of manual without the -'s. I know there's still that "sporty" aspect missing, but from a purely technical standpoint, the auto starts out worse, but can be made equal to i not better than a 5 speed.
