i thought i read in 5.0 mag that running with a cooler thermostat gained a little performance, does anyone have any info to add? if so what exactly does it help with?

RE: 160 degrees thermostat
Keep in mind that motors these days are engineered to operate at a certain temperature. The stock thermostat was put in their to maximize efficiency. Things such as buring fuel completely. A cold motor can make more HP for one reason, cold air is more dense. As it heats up air expands, you have to basically move more hot air to get the same volume as you did when it was cooler. I personally would not do it, you may be better served trying to find some kind of cold air intake or something of the sort. I know a lot of guys with MarkvIII's went this route. The motor is better served leaving the stock thermostat intact.
